By far the crispiest homemade chicken wings I’ve ever made! This air fryer chicken wing recipe is the perfect amount for two people as a meal and can be served crispy or coated in buffalo sauce!

When it comes to chicken wings, I live in a house divided. My fiancée is a saucy wing lover, he would have them swimming in buffalo sauce; and I prefer dry ultra-crispy deliciousness. That said, mu ultra crispiness can come in a variety of ways: with a dry rub, in a batter – I am actually super fond of crispy battered salt and pepper wings (I should start testing them!).
Nevertheless, the recipe below is a way I married our to preferences so that I can enjoy flavoured, dry and crispy wings and my fiancée can enjoy his saucy buffalo wings with the addition of a super easy step!

Why I love air fryer chicken wings?
Ok, so in the past I have found a way to make chicken wings in the oven that get crispy. The key is to cook them on a wire rack to allow air to circulate around the entire wing and to make sure it’s not sitting in its own grease. In essence, an air fryer with a basket is similar, however with its high power convection and ability to heat much faster, you can have delicious wings in half the time.

Recipe Notes
Dry your wings. Out of the package you wings are wet from their juices; take the time to pat dry each wing with paper towel. Less moisture = more crispy!
Rub your way. I personally really like the rub mentioned below – it adds flavour to the wings. However, if you’re more of a salt and pepper person or have an amazing store bought spice blend, use it! Take the recipe as more of a suggestion when in comes to flavour – but the cooking instructions are key.
Try not to crowd the air fryer bin. I say try, because I do crowd the bin quite a bit in this recipe (take a look at the photo!). The key is to try and keep the wings all in one layer! One or two on top is no big deal, but make sure you shake or even take your tongs to move the wings around half way through.
Hope you enjoy!

AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS (WITH BUFFALO SAUCE)
By far the crispiest homemade chicken wings I’ve ever made! This air fryer chicken wing recipe is the perfect amount for two people as a meal and can be served crispy or coated in buffalo sauce!
INGREDIENTS
- 2 lbs chicken wings, well dried
- 1 tsp seasoned salt
- 1 ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp paprika
Buffalo Sauce:
- 1/2 cup hot sauce (I use Frank's)
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Remove wings from the package, dry well with a paper towel and place in a large bowl.
-
Sprinkle wings with spices and toss to coat.
-
Heat air fryer to 380°F.
-
Once heated, add wings to the basket making sure they cover only one layer as much as possible. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes turning the wings halfway through.
-
Serve while still hot!
Buffalo Sauce:
-
During the second half of cooking, combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Stir and heat over medium until the butter has melted, set aside until wings are cooked.
-
Once wings are cooked, transfer to a heatproof bowl, add the buffalo sauce and toss to coat.
-
From here you can serve them saucy or return them to the air fryer and cook for 3-5 minutes more to set the sauce!
